Don't under estimate the size of this task. Even the smallest property will take the best part of a day. Larger properties can take 2 to 3 days. If you're trying to fit in with a busy work schedule, it can help to completely finish each room one at a time, starting with the least used rooms first.
In bedrooms, remove all the bed linen, curtains and any other linen. Wash them taking care to follow the care instructions. Whilst these are washing, start at ceiling height with the cleaning routine. Take down the lamp shades and carefully clean with a damp cloth. A good tip is to vacuum them before wiping. Use a feather duster around the ceiling paying particular care to the edges. Dust the tops of wardrobes with a dry cloth, then use a very damp cloth to clean. Use a damp cloth to wipe all surfaces of wardrobes, bedside cabinets etc. Wipe all window sills, window frames and door frames with a damp cloth, making sure you clean the least visible part at the top which faces upwards. Finally, thoroughly vacuum the carpets. If the carpets are several years old, it will probably be worth using a carpet cleaner.
In bathrooms and toilets, firstly focus on the ceiling, window and door frames as per bedrooms. Then take a good look at the sinks, bath and shower. Is there any limescale or mould? There are specialist cleaning products to remove these unsightly problems (which WILL spoil your sale chances if lift untreated), all the best products should be available in your local B&Q. When cleaning toilets, wipe the outsides, cisterns etc with a cleaning wipe such as Dettol wipe. Use a loo brush first on the inside, then use this wipe on the inside of the loo, followed by a good toilet cleaner. Finally, deal with the floor. Launder any rugs you can, but consider replacement as the best option. If you have carpet, vacuum or clean as per bedrooms. If you you have tiles or lino, thoroughly wash the floor.
In the kitchen firstly focus on ceilings, windows and doors as per bedrooms. Then, empty each cupboard or drawer, thoroughly wipe all surfaces clean, throw away and replace any lining paper, the neatly replace the contents. Then look at the sink and cooker. Deal with limescale issues around the sink. Clean your oven inside and out using oven cleaning products. It's also a good time to clean your fridge inside and out. Lastly, thoroughly was all floors.
In the Living Room, deal with the ceilings, doors, windows and any linen including curtains, as per the bedrooms. Then, look at your seating. Remove all detachable part from settees and chairs, then using the right attachments, vacuum all the nooks and crannies. Wipe your settee with a damp cloth. If it's leather, use a leather kit available from good furniture shops. Next, look at your TV and the area behind it. This area is a dust trap and should be thoroughly vacuumed. Ensure your electicals such as the TV are disconnected from the mains whilst being cleaned. Wipe to top and sides of the TV with a cloth. Wipe all shelves, tables, cabinets with a damp cloth. If you have a carpet, thorough vacuum, and use a carpet cleaner if it's more then a couple of years old. Lastly, use a duster and spray polish on all appropriate surfaces.
In the landing and hall, follow all the principles above.
